I was introduced to Colloidal silver about 30 years ago, before it became easily available commercially and we 'made our own' with small devices bought from a pioneer in the field. Now you can get it anywhere - why? because it WORKS! It's not something I use all the time but occasionally when I've been exposed to bugs and viruses and definitely when I travel, especially flying.
A Brief History of Colloidal Silver
Silver has been used for thousands of years as a natural antibiotic and disinfectant.
Ancient civilizations, including the Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks, used silver containers to store and preserve food and water.
They observed that water stored in silver containers remained fresh and that silver coins in milk prevented spoilage.
In medieval Europe, royalty often ate from silver dishes and utensils, believing it protected them from illnesses.
This is the origin of the phrase "born with a silver spoon in their mouth," implying protection from disease and privilege.
During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, colloidal silver became popular in medicine. Before antibiotics became widely available, doctors used colloidal silver to prevent infection, treat wounds, and as an antimicrobial agent.
Colloidal silver was prescribed for various infections, including eye infections, wound healing, and respiratory ailments.
However, with the development of modern antibiotics in the 1940s, the use of colloidal silver in mainstream medicine declined.
How Colloidal Silver Works
Colloidal silver is believed to work by attaching to bacterial and fungal cells, disrupting their metabolic processes, and ultimately causing them to die.
It may also help reduce inflammation and stimulate the immune response, aiding the body in fighting off infections.
The tiny silver particles suspended in the liquid allow penetration of tissues and interaction at the cellular level.
How I use Colloidal Silver
As an Immune Support: particularly during cold and flu season when exposed to bugs e.g. I will take when I fly to help repel any bacteria, virus or fungal elements in the recycled air.
Over the decades I have found it useful when travelling in different cultures, for example in North Africa I travelled extensively and only once got sick and that was the time I DIDN'T take it, I'd left it at home!
How do I take it? Nowadays I use a spray and use it on my nose and mouth area + on the back of my throat.
If I feel a cold coming on - right at the beginning stage, I gargle every hour with it. This seems to be able to 'nip it in the bud' and of course, the gargling supports Vagal tone which in turn supports every system of the body, including immunity.
There is no standardized dosage for colloidal silver, and its safety profile for internal use is not well-documented. As always I suggest you ENERGY TEST to ensure it works well with your body chemistry. Not sure how to Energy Test? look at my free blogs on the website, many have video links embedded OR when you join my newsletter you receive 5 free gifts, one of which is a booklet on how to energy test.
For Wound Healing: Colloidal silver’s antimicrobial properties make it useful for treating wounds, cuts, and burns. Some wound care products and bandages contain silver to prevent infection and promote healing. Applying it topically reduces inflammation and prevents infection.
I recently suffered a very deep cut on my thumb joint, very difficult to heal because of the constant movement, but one of the things I used was my trusty CS spray to minimise risk of infection .... I also used Iodine and alcohol. The former being a real throwback to my youth, whenever we cut or grazed ourselves, out came the Iodine bottle and I swear it stung more in days gone by!
A 2019 study reviewed silver-based dressings and their antimicrobial efficacy in wound care, showing that silver-containing products might reduce bacterial load and promote faster healing.
Studies have shown that silver ions can damage bacterial cell membranes and DNA, effectively neutralizing pathogens. For instance, silver nanoparticles have shown efficacy against bacteria such as E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and even MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), a common superbug in healthcare settings.
As I said at the beginning CS is NOT something I include in my daily routine, I use it sparingly as a support if I'm travelling, visiting a hospital or a public place where bugs can lurk or for a couple of days to aid wound healing.
If you decide to incorporate colloidal silver into your wellness routine, do so with caution and consideration. Energy test, patch test for skin use, stick to low dosages and choose the best quality products you can find.
I use it as needed a well. And for washing faces of foster kittens who have upper respiratory issues, like mucky eyes. It's helped clear up a lot of kitten eyes. Sovereign Silver brand is what I use, 10 ppm ...
