CONNECTING HEAVEN AND EARTH

  • Opening energies throughout the body and lubricating the joints.

  • Activates the immune system

  • Helps ease insomnia

  • Opens up the meridians and turns on the Strange-flows

Connecting Heaven and Earth is an energy-balancing exercise designed to open up the body’s meridians, release stagnant energy, and enhance the flow of energy throughout the system.

The movement combines gentle stretching with intentional breathing, allowing you to connect your physical and energetic bodies with the universal energies of the earth and sky.

In the busyness of contemporary life, we seek to achieve balance and harmony in all areas of our lives, between:

·       work and home

·       children

·       time for others and time for ourselves

·       being ‘connected’ and being ‘grounded’

·       being informed and not getting caught in screen overload

Helps you cope and achieve a balance in life between feeling 'inspired' and creative and being grounded, dealing with the practicalities of life such as paying bills.

The many facets of life, the duality and how, even in a quiet rural area, let alone in busy urban life, we may have to juggle more than one plate in the air at the same time, inevitably resulting in the 'S' word – stress.

This simple exercise has been around for centuries, you will have seen it on Egyptian hieroglyphs, it is evident in Chinese and Indian practices even Celtic mythology – let's face it, there is never anything new, we just rename it!  Perhaps it passes down through the centuries and cultures because we have an instinct to use these motions for releasing accumulated energies and inviting in a fresh supply. Donna Eden (Eden Energy Medicine) has taken and refined the exercise and sees such benefits she has included it in her official Daily Energy Routine - the D.E.R.

If ever there is pain or a problem anywhere in the body, chances are that blood circulation, lymphatic flow and 'energy' is not moving as efficiently as it should be in a particular area.  There may be a blockage, certainly congestion.

It creates space and gets things flowing in the  torso.

The stretching moves stagnant energies that may be sitting around the waist . Releasing excess energetic ‘sludge’  in this way, brings fresh oxygen to the cells and of course the brain, increasing mental clarity.

This in turn stimulates Belt Flow, an extraordinary flow of energy that circles the waist and encourages a healthy balance between head and heart.

It helps expel toxins and stimulates fresh energy to flow through the joints.

The organs beneath the area benefit from  this improved blood/lymph/energy circulation and flow, even nerve pathways are stretched and revived. The functions of kidneys, digestion, ileocecal valve, reproduction, even spleen and pancreas should improve.

Lower back benefits from increased flow and the gentle forward bend, as do the legs.

The forward bend also opens up the Mingmen area – a powerful energetic portal that opens to ancestral energies and feeds the Penetrating flow.

This exercise will nip a cold in the bud, before it gets a hold.  When you feel that first little flutter in the back of the throat, do half a dozen 'connections'.

Stretching each side helps release fat deposits and slim down the waist – we could all do with that!

Feel more energised as you reconnect to two vital sources of energy: sun/sky and earth – think of how plants respond to these two elements. Results in a sense of inner peace and improving the Yin Yang balance essential for good health. (Yang is the heavens, Yin is the earth).

Helps balance the polarities of the body, for better absorption of earth energy, a wonderful source of healing, nurturing and nourishing Yin energy.

Joins upper and lower body enabling it to work as a whole, rather than two separate parts.

If you are a therapist of any kind, it is an excellent exercise to do after working with clients as it moves any energies you may have picked up, out of your system.

Enhances Energy Awareness: This practice helps deepen your connection to your own energy field, making you more attuned to subtle shifts and imbalances.

HOW TO DO IT

  • Start in a Standing Position: Stand comfortably with your feet shoulder-width apart. Let your arms hang loosely at your sides.

  • Rub Your Hands Together: Warm up your hands by briskly rubbing them together. This activates the hand’s energy centres and gets rid of any old stale stagnant or tired energies.

  • Place Your Hands on Your Thighs: Take a deep breath, grounding yourself and becoming present.  Smile and breath.

  • Raise One Arm: Stretch one arm upward toward the sky, reaching as far as you can, with your palm facing up. Simultaneously, extend the other arm downward, palm facing the earth.  Look up at the raised hand.

  • Breathe Deeply: Inhale deeply as you stretch, envisioning the energy of the heavens flowing into your raised hand and the energy of the earth being drawn up through your lowered hand.

  • Feel the stretch – hold this position for a few seconds/couple of deep breaths or for as long as is comfortable.

  • Look down briefly at the lower hand.

  • Bring hands into a prayer position then ….

  • Repeat on the opposite side.

  • Repeat the Sequence as many times as you wish: Perform this sequence several times, moving slowly and deliberately.  Bring your attention to what you are doing and talk to your energies, what do you want them to do?

  • On the last stretch/ prayer position,  come down into a gentle forward bend, letting arms fall to the ground, knees unlocked, be ‘floppy’ and breath!  If a standing forward bend is physically a problem, sit and lean forward.

  • Return to an upright position, slowly, vertebrae by vertebrae, using your abdominal muscles to bring you up. Ss you do, fluffing up the energies in front of you, or coming up Spleen Meridian, or coming up tracing 8’s.

  •  Stand relaxed and bring your shoulders right up to your ears in a shrug, then drop them back down

  • Finish with Hands Over Heart: End the exercise by placing both hands over your heart, taking a moment to feel cantered and grounded.
