I posted a blog earlier on how to find your ideal weight and mentioned I was on a reset ..... obviously it's 'reset time' because, it stirred interest and some of you have asked what I do to reset -
after mindless munching in the States last week, which, I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed every single mouthful!
But, back to reality at home on the island - I need to do two things:
Get rid of a few extra pounds of combined naughtiness and Transatlantic travel-bloat.
Eliminate the cravings caused by eating not only wheat and sugar but ........ cheese !!! my great passion and love in life.
I'm a bit of an 'all or nothing' person, some might label me obsessive, so I find it easier to go 'cold turkey' and for three days I drink lots of water to flush out the system and ensure any hunger pangs aren't simply thirst.
Give my body all the nutrition it needs in an easy to absorb form - i.e. a smoothie.
I do vary my recipes and as you know, there are hundreds out there. The important thing is to get the nutrition in a form you enjoy. Green is better for this task, and get the best quality you can find. So, what did I have today?
Handful of Kale
4 handfuls of baby spinach
Half a cup of coriander
About 4 inches of cucumber
2 sticks of celery
Half a thumb of Ginger - optional
1 ripe avocado
squeeze of lemon
ice cubes
1 cup of organic oat milk (Yesterday I used organic beetroot juice, which I drink every day anyway - great for the lungs)
I didn't today but I sometimes add linseed and psyllium husks (for fibre and digestion)
I also had a boiled egg and apple in the morning and evening
Because of the nutritional hit of the smoothie, there is no actual hunger …. .but as those cravings leave my body, I'm definitely still dreaming of cheese! however, I know it's just that, a craving and cravings can be resisted.
This is what helps me resist for these initial few days until the chemical addiction evaporates .... I tap the point in the groove between my ring and little finger with the middle finger of my other hand and repeat, while smiling ...... I can do this, I can do this, I'm doing this! I'm loving it, I feel so good, it's easy.
... and you can!
It's not forever, it's simply for a few days to reset your chemical balance - so that those cravings stop leading your mouth astray!
There are so many books on juicing out there, but Jason Vale has been around for many years ..... known as the Juice Master, check him out at your local bookstore or online.
I bought his very first book and I've just gone online to see if he has a website and boy! has he come a long way in 20 years ...
Thanks Maddie. Will give this beetroot juice a go in a smoothie. Not keen on any form of milk so this looks appealing. Hope you had a great time in USA. XX
