Click on this link to see Donna Eden demonstrating and explaining how you are making space for blood, lymph, energy to flow freely, clearing congestion.
Here is her daughter, Dondi, giving a short demo
The Crown Pull is one of those ancient techniques found around the world, especially in Indian Head Massage, used to clear stagnant energy and increase energy, blood and lymphatic flow in the entire head area, which in turn impacts the entire body.
Donna Eden has taken it one step further and added her ‘energy wisdom’, presenting it in her Daily Energy Routine, as a simple, easy way to enhance your self-care.
I encourage you to watch the two short videos above and do the Crown Pull, then read all the benefits it delivers!
For fun, here is a link to the Donna Eden ‘early days’ a film of her class that includes Crown Pull - https://youtu.be/MPjBSoGr8ic
I often mention Donna’s D.E.R. Daily Energy Routine – if you are not familiar with it, you’ll love this ten minute video! https://youtu.be/clkHOIkPaks
The Crown Pull exercise is designed to release tension in the head, improve mental clarity, and encourage the flow of energy through the body’s meridians and chakras.
By releasing mental congestion it returns clarity to your thinking, refreshing the mind and opening the crown chakra to higher inspiration.
Yes, do it in your D.E.R. but also whenever you have a headache, feel you can’t take in more information, before an energy treatment such as chakra clearing – this is an invaluable technique – it literally CLEARS THE COBWEBS from your head!
Okay, so let’s look at how to do this simple technique.
Be aware that I have added a few extra 'flourishes' that I've incorporated over the years.
It’s straightforward and requires only a few minutes of your time.
· Remember to smile and breathe throughout the exercise. take slow, deep breaths to enhance relaxation and energy flow.
· Do it at a speed that suits you and feels good
· Move outwards the length that feels the best for you – could be 1” or the whole head width. No right or wrong, get curious to what feels as if it connects and moves the energy the most.
· SHAKE OFF your hands between movements if you feel drawn to do so, it gets rid of any stale energy you will be moving.
· You might also find it is enhanced by some ‘self-talk’ – e.g. It is now safe for my head to release any old, stale, stagnant energy, any toxic thoughts that have accumulated. The energy, blood and lymph all flow freely for optimum function. All is well. Thank you.
· Sit or stand in a relaxed posture, ensuring your body is aligned.
· Feet on the floor and connect to a feeling of ‘groundedness’ – by taking a couple of deep breaths and maybe some self-talk (see above)
· ‘Clean your tools’ – your hands are your tools and they can collect stale, tired energy themselves so wake them up and clear off that old energy by rubbing them together a few times and ‘shaking’ them off into the ground. You might even ‘pull off’ each finger. You now start the exercise with energetically clean hands/fingers …. Much better for working with your body.
· I trained many moons ago with Dr Metha in Indian Head Massage so I can never resist adding a bit of stimulation to the head by ruffling the hair/scalp and lightly and quickly ‘pinching’ all over the scalp randomly, ending with firm but gentle tugging of the hair itself. It wakes everything up. This only need be 30 seconds and most people enjoy it. Just make sure there is no reason why you can’t do it on someone else e.g. hair extensions
· If you are a practitioner, this is a great ‘warm up’ before you do the Black Pearl or work with the Neurovascular points in any way.
Start at the Forehead:
With fingers slightly curled, place your fingertips at the centre of your forehead, just above your eyebrows., little finger roughly in line with the brows.
Thumbs can be resting gently on the temples, or just in front of the ear, whichever is more comfortable.
Apply gentle pressure with those finger tips, dig in and don’t be shy. as you pull your fingers outward toward your temples.
Shake off.
Move along the midline of the scalp, inch by inch, repeating the outward pulling motion across your scalp.
Continue down to the base of the skull, maintaining the outward pulling motion.
If there are no neck issues, continue pulling outwards from the spine.
When you arrive at the ‘necklace’ line pull along firmly and shake off
Repeat the sequence again if you would like to. No hard or fast rule, get curious, observe your body and decide if one is enough or it would benefit for more.
I’ll now often cross my arms and ‘pick up’ the top of each shoulder which can often be tight and squeeze it 3-4 times before ….
Shake off and cross hands over the heart area – close the eyes, smile, breathe and simply say something like: Thank you, all is well, all is clear.
So what does it actually do?
The Crown Pull offers a range of benefits for both physical and mental well-being:
Relieves Head Tension: By physically releasing tightness in the scalp and skull, the exercise can alleviate headaches and mental fog.
Improves Mental Clarity: Enhanced blood, lymph and energy flows to the brain can boost focus, creativity, and cognitive function. Memory benefits for sure, if done regularly.
The opening of the 3rd eye, right at the start, encourages you to see things through a clearer lens, possibly a healthier perspective.
Pulling out to the temples and possibly lingering there a couple of seconds encourages calmness to return to Triple Warmer (the pathway of energy associated with stress), think how we might instinctively massage our temples when stressed or need clarity of thought.
Moving over the forehead you’ll cover the forehead ‘holding points’ associated with stress response + Stomach and Bladder
Opening the crown area, influences the crown chakra and activates a very powerful acupuncture point – GOV 20 or 100 MEETINGS – together this enhances and, done regularly, improves that intuitive connection to the higher ‘knowing’ available to us all.
That area also houses numerous Neurovascular Reflex points influencing the Lungs, Heart, Central, Liver and Gallbladder
The ‘necklace line’ contains energy flows from the body to the head: meridians and chakras and benefits from a little firm pressure to release staleness or tension.
In Kinesiology the shoulder muscles you move over are associated with Kidney. The ones on the side of the neck with Stomach.
Ending by connecting to the energy of the heart and gratitude, seems, to me, to cement it all into that wonderful healing energy ….. it’s a great start to the day OR at the end of the day to clear the mind before sleep, for a deeper and less disturbed sleep.
FOR YOUR INTEREST: You don’t need to know each meridian or it’s point, but these three diagrams give you an idea of just how many energy pathways you cross with this technique.
Did that feel good?
Would you like to do even more?
I’d like to now share with you another technique that Donna shared with me, one of her students (Jo Christie) came to her with it many moons again.
I personally love it as all too often we can neglect the back of our bodies …. This exercise pays it attention and:
· Creates space of the Yin and Yang energies on both sides of the body to merge. The Yin is on the left and Yang is on the right.
· Stimulates the back bladder points on the main pathway + the more spiritual shu points. Bladder energy is associated with the nervous system.
· Activates the Strangeflow energies so helps when ‘change’ is a feature in your life and encourages these flows to really tap into their role as energetic troubleshooters.
· Clears stale energy from the back area of the main chakra system
· Encourages blood and lymph flow and can help alleviate back pain
· Aids the flow of cerebral spinal fluid to the brain
· Activates all the Spinal reflexes to every single organ of the body (we do this in a spinal flush too, so you might consider doing the two techniques in one session)
You literally pull out from the centre line of your body. Down the spine and gluts. When you come to the end of the torso, do the left leg and then the right, imagine you are working out from the seam of a 50’s pair of stockings! Finish on the ankles and come off there OR see how it feels to stroke along the outside of each foot and come off the little toe instead. No right or wrong way, just what feels good to you.
Remember, smile, breath, always move from the centre outwards with firm movements, shake off the hands in between and pay attention, feel the energy, blood and lymph move – even talk to the systems, reassuring that it’s safe and it’s time to ‘get moving’!
